Build A Day Content Below Form

In the foundation of every Habitat home, there are hundreds of handprints of people who came together to lift up a local family in need. Volunteers put in about 3,000 hours for each home we build, accounting for a significant portion of the total construction hours. Most of our volunteers have never worked on a construction site before and some have never held a hammer. But the wonderful part about contributing is that it doesn’t require extensive experience or skill to make a big difference. You’ll learn on the job from our construction site supervisor. It only takes passion and willingness. It’s that simple!

Please contact our volunteer coordinator to schedule a group volunteer day.

What days/times do you build?

We build Habitat homes through the week and on weekends, so you can most likely find a date convenient for you. Check the build schedule for upcoming build days. A full build day is 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Please be sure to arrive on time because we begin each day with a Tool Safety and Project Briefing. If time is limited, feel free to leave before quitting time. But start time is 8 a.m. sharp.

Is there a minimum age to volunteer?

Yes. All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Minors between 16 and 18 years old should complete the waiver form and have a parent or guardian sign the bottom of the sheet. Volunteers under 18 are restricted to certain construction activities.

I signed up. How shall I prepare for my build day?

First, complete the liability waiver prior to your build day. Please be sure to arrive on time because we begin each day with a Tool Safety and Project Briefing. All volunteers should attend these sessions to work on the site. Wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and possibly painted. Closed-toe shoes are required (boots and sneakers are OK, but no high heels, clogs, crocs or dress shoes). T-shirts or tank tops are fine, and please wear long pants or shorts of modest length. Bring a refillable water bottle, lunch and snacks with you. Visit  www.hfhvolunteerinsurance.com to review the safety guidelines prior to volunteering on our build site. This is optional, but certainly encouraged.

Can I share my Build Day photos on social media?
Yes, absolutely. We encourage it. In fact, follow us and you can share any photos we post as well.
Can I use build hours to fulfill court-ordered community service?

Court-ordered hours must be fulfilled at a ReStore. Construction hours do not count. Contact our volunteer coordinator, call (407) 696-5855 ext. 2206 for more information.

Sign Up For An Orientation Volunteer At The ReStore

At the ReStore, you can make a difference in the lives of others. So whether you have a few hours or several days each week to volunteer, you’ll find a welcome home at one of our ReStores. Our workplace is friendly, welcoming and rewarding. We’re inspired every day by our customers, donors and staff – all of whom are working to make life better in Central Florida. Because all of our merchandise has been donated, it is sold at highly discounted prices to families that might not otherwise afford such basic essentials. Store sales also help us build and renovate homes for local families struggling to find decent, affordable housing. The ReStore is a perfect volunteer opportunity for you if you enjoy being creative, meeting and helping new people, or if you’re handy and can fix things. We always need volunteers to set up attractive merchandise displays, work cash registers, inventory items and restore broken items to sellable condition.

All thrift store volunteers must attend an orientation before beginning their service.
