With her uncle as head of the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) in Palatka, Florida, Kelly grew up understanding how the department\u2019s grants, certified counseling, and educational resources help create financial freedom for citizens. She expressed that this exposure to HUD\u2019s mission shaped how she thinks about housing today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kelly first learned about Habitat for Humanity through a coworker who had previously worked at a Habitat affiliate. She later found out more about Habitat Seminole-Apopka’s homebuying program through a county newsletter detailing the no-cost educational resources<\/a> available. Recognizing an opportunity to purchase a safe and accessible home, Kelly decided to apply for the program. Now, she is excited to be purchasing her home through Habitat Seminole-Apopka, a HUD certified organization serving Central Florida communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As she works to overcome degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia, Kelly looks forward to a stairless, climate-controlled home that will allow her to continue to regulate her conditions and grow stronger.
