Women Build 2021

Every year Women Builders join together in support of a common mission- building opportunities for women in our community. They remind themselves that empowered women empower women- so they encourage one another, they set goals they can be proud of, and they bond over a common compassion. A compassion for the hardworking single mothers in our community with big dreams!

After a rough year that had an especially big impact on single mothers, Women Builders set their biggest goal yet. To raise $300,000 for affordable housing!

This goal was inspired and kickstarted by the generosity of a new Habitat Seminole-Apopka partner. Stephenie and her husband Scott Bryan reached out to us to see how they could give back in a big way. Their construction company, Bryan Builders, founded in 2010, had grown from 3 to 25 employees and their hard work was paying off. They saw their blessings as an opportunity- an opportunity to give back to others and serve the community! They reached out to Habitat and pledged to give $200,000 and bring their employees in from all over the Southeast to build together. We are so grateful for this new partnership, it is what women build is all about. When successful people in our community give back, the entire community wins!

Though the funding from Women Build supports more than one family, as it goes to our general construction budget, every year Women Builder’s get to know one family currently in the program. The Women Build construction days are scheduled at that family’s home, and volunteers work side by side with the homebuyer on build days. This year’s Women Build Homebuyer is Latesia. Latesia is a single mother with four adult children and a grandbaby. She has worked as a medical assistant in pediatrics for over 15 years now. Her youngest daughter Gamia and her granddaughter Ashlynn will be living in her three-bedroom Habitat home when it is finished!
