For our first recognition in a new series, we’re spotlighting Laura Hurt, a recent addition to the Habitat volunteer team, for her outstanding dedication, versatile skills, and heartfelt commitment to our mission of building homes and hope as an office and event volunteer.

Who are our Volunteer Highlights?
At Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka, we believe our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Every wall raised, every family served, and every event we host is made possible through the dedication and compassion of people who give their time and talents to our mission.
Each year, hundreds of volunteers contribute thousands of hours across our affiliate. They serve on committees like our Homebuyer Selection Committee, helping review applications for future homeowners, and our Mentorship Council, guiding homebuyers through their journey to homeownership. Others lend their skills on our construction sites, in our offices, or at our community events—each role vital in helping local families achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
We’re proud to introduce a new way to recognize these incredible individuals: our Volunteer Highlights. Throughout the year, we’ll be highlighting volunteers who embody the spirit of service and community that defines Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka.
Inaugural Volunteer Highlight: Laura Hurt
Laura began volunteering with us in early September. In just a short time, Laura has already dedicated 41 hours to supporting our mission—helping with office work and event setup and breakdown, and stepping in wherever she’s needed most.
What stands out most about Laura is her willingness to learn, her eagerness to help, and the professional experience she brings to the team. With a background in executive administrative support, event coordination, scheduling, document management, and both Microsoft and Google tools, Laura has quickly become a trusted part of our office operations and event planning efforts.
Our Volunteer Coordinator, Josephine Bunn shared, “Laura brings a spirit of ‘how can I help?’ to everything she does. She’s dependable, proactive, and always looking for ways to make an impact.”

“My volunteer experience has been great! The Habitat team has been welcoming and open. Their passion for what they do shines through. Josephine’s enthusiasm is contagious. It has been very impactful meeting some of the future homebuyers and current homeowners and hearing their stories of transformation and the impact homeownership has on their families.”
Laura Hurt, Habitat Volunteer Highlight
