Alexis

Having the right tools and support helped her reach her goals

Alexis is a determined individual who dreams of creating a safer, more stable environment for her family. She is a dedicated single mother of four boys, three of whom are grown and out on their own. Working full-time in early childhood education, Alexis is known for her compassion and commitment to both her own family and the families she serves.

Alexis and her youngest son currently live in substandard living conditions. In their current rental situation, they are enduring mold and mildew in the single working bathroom, and water damage throughout the entire home. There are also issues with the air conditioning and heating units not functioning properly, leaving Alexis and her family unsettled and uncomfortable in their home. Many people would deem these ongoing unsafe conditions as unlivable.

When she first applied to the Habitat for Humanity Homebuyer Program, Alexis wasn’t accepted, but she never lost sight of her goal to provide a home for herself and her family. After hearing about Habitat’s Financial Academy, Alexis enrolled in the six-week program and began working with Habitat’s HUD Certified Housing Counselor to strengthen her financial foundation. With hard work and determination, she raised her credit score by over 200 points, successfully meeting all program requirements and beginning her journey towards homeownership.

Alexis has been enthusiastic about the homebuyer process, continuously speaking to volunteers about her Habitat experience. Her journey is a powerful example of resilience, personal growth, and the impact of having the right tools and support to reach your goals.
