Growing up in a large family in Oviedo, Jaylon has always found joy in family life. When he met his now adopted son Micah, he felt a call to provide him with the love and security he deserves.
Previously, Jaylon worked in education with the public school system, but after realizing his passion for helping at-risk youth, Jaylon began working for Boys Town, a youth care organization. The nonprofit is a nationwide organization dedicated to child and family care, offering various community programs and crisis services. This is where he met Micah, stepping in to offer guidance and showing him the potential for a bright future.
After experiencing changes in property management and rising rent prices, Jaylon knew he needed a more stable living environment for him and his son. He came across Habitat Seminole-Apopka on Facebook and decided to take a step towards homeownership by enrolling in Habitat’s Financial Academy and applying for the Habitat Homebuyer Program. While applying to be a Habitat Homebuyer, Jaylon reflected, saying, “I am seeking an opportunity to own a home where financial worries do not overshadow our lives, where Micah can grow without the fear of instability, and where we can build lasting memories together.”
Today, Jaylon is a successful homeowner who continues to advocate for affordable housing, joining Habitat in activist efforts in Tallahassee and in Central Florida. He hopes his story will inspire other single fathers, showing that with the right support and resources, they too can build a better future for their children.
