Duties & Responsibilities

Habitat for Humanity is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Home Build Experience Volunteer and Trainer. This volunteer position is crucial in supporting our mission to build affordable homes and strengthen communities in Central Florida. The ideal candidate will have hands-on home build and/or home improvement experience and safety training and will enjoy working outdoors and facilitating the training of professionals and donors who volunteer their time and resources to Habitat for Humanity.

  • Materials Preparation: Oversee the availability and adequate supply, preparation, and organization of building materials for residential home construction projects worked on by Habitat donors and volunteers.
  • Training Facilitation: Conduct training sessions for volunteers, professionals, and donors, ensuring they understand safety protocols and construction techniques prior to their home build experience.
  • Safety Compliance: Oversee that volunteers adhere to safety guidelines and procedures during the build day experience.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with other team leads and Habitat for Humanity staff to coordinate volunteer activities and build schedules.
  • Community Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers, encouraging teamwork and community spirit.
  • Availability: Commit to volunteering for home build assignments approximately 10-20 times a year as needed. Shifts may run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may take place on weekdays and/or Saturdays.
  • Hands-On Equipment Operation: Demonstrate and supervise the use of home building equipment, tools and supplies such as nail guns, drywall, plywood, paint, etc. Ensure volunteers are trained in their proper and safe use.

Preceding job responsibilities or title, all employees of the Habitat Seminole-Apopka affiliate have a vital role in stewardship of all volunteers. All duties are performed with excellence with particular attention to customer service both internal and external. Internally customer service includes co-workers, homebuyers, Board of Directors, and volunteers. Externally customer service includes phone inquiries, shoppers, and donors. Each individual we have a connection to is a potential donor or volunteer and can be presented with engagement opportunities such as store donations, monetary gifts, and volunteer time.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in residential home construction or home improvement projects and building materials preparation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols and training in construction environments.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Be able to lift and move building supplies within the jobsite in a safe manner.
  • Passion for volunteering and giving back to the community.
  • Ability to facilitate training sessions and engage with diverse groups of volunteers.
