Legacy Square Advances Affordable Homeownership in Central Florida

Habitat announced the continued development of Legacy Square, a transformative 19-home community in Sanford designed to help address Central Florida’s growing shortage of affordable housing. With a total investment of $7.2 million, the project marks a significant step forward in expanding access to sustainable homeownership for working families.
As part of this milestone, Habitat, in partnership with Seminole County and Wharton-Smith hosted a ceremonial Wall Raising Event on June 17, 2026. Over 200 community members helped celebrated the launch of Phase Two construction—transitioning the project from infrastructure completion to vertical homebuilding.

A Historic Investment

Once complete, the Legacy Square development will offer 19 energy-efficient homes, approximately 1,500 square feet with garages, designed to provide quality, attainable homeownership opportunities in a high-demand market. Construction is targeted for completion by mid-2027.

Homes at Legacy Square will be sold to qualified buyers who are supported with financial education, homeownership training, and earned sweat equity.

Beyond providing homes, Legacy Square is expected to:

  • Revitalize underutilized land in Sanford
  • Expand the local tax base
  • Contribute more than $14 million to regional GDP
  • Support workforce stability by reducing long commutes and housing barriers
