After watching her sister, Habitat Homeowner Jameca, successfully complete her homebuying journey through Habitat Seminole-Apopka’s program, Jacques realized it was time to pursue homeownership for herself. As a single mother raising two daughters, with one in college and the other still in public school, Jacques is determined to provide a stable and secure home for her family.
During her sister Jameca’s time in the Habitat Homebuyer Program, she and her child lived with Jacques to help save for their future home. Now, more than a year later, Jacques and her youngest daughter are living with Jameca in her Habitat home while Jacques works toward completing the same program. Although Jacques is grateful for her sister’s support, sharing a home has created overcrowded living conditions. For example, the children share a bedroom, and Jacques, who works remotely, often struggles to find a quiet space to focus.
When Jacques learned she had been accepted into the Habitat program, she experienced a sense of relief, sharing, “it felt like more security.” She and her daughter especially look forward to having a home of their own, where they can cook together in their own kitchen, creating lasting memories and decorating a space that truly feels like theirs.
Jacques is currently working with one of Habitat’s housing counselors and participating in Habitat’s Financial Academy to strengthen her financial stability. Through these resources, she has made significant progress in improving her credit, managing her finances, and lowering her debt-to-income ratio. Jacques looks forward to the day she can leave behind rising rent costs and embrace the long-term stability of homeownership.
